Sports Injuries

Whether you play sport just to have fun with family and friends or you are an elite level athlete, we understand how frustrating it can be when an injury affects your ability to participate in the sport you love.

With many years’ experience treating sporting injuries we understand how important it is to get you back out being the sportsperson you want to be in the fastest, most effective way possible.

Acute Sports Injuries

In the acute stage of an injury there is often damage to a structure such as the muscle, ligament, cartilage or bone. Your body’s initial but critical response to help repair itself is the inflammation process whereby surrounding vessels relax to allow healing chemicals and proteins to flood the area.

By disrupting this in the early stages you risk your recovery being much longer. This is why following the PEACE and LOVE principle is key to getting you back on track quickly. To find out more see our blog on this.

However after the first few days, input from a physio is key to help guide appropriate early management and intervention to help get you back out exercising again and to reduce the risk of developing a chronic injury that can go on much longer than it should.

Chronic Sports Injuries

When your injury goes on longer than it should we understand that it can be highly frustrating. We’re often told to rest our injuries (which can be great in the initial instance) but sadly following a “wait and see” approach can often impair the healing process and prolong the recovery.

If you’ve had an injury that just isn’t getting better, or if pain returns as soon as you training intensity increases, an assessment by one of our physios can help identify all the contributing factors for this.   We can then formulate a plan and guide you through an appropriate rehabilitation programme to finally overcome your chronic injury and get you back out doing what it is you love.
